Retford Swimming Club Open Meet: Category B Gala

Ponds Forge, Sheffield

22nd June 2008

Sunday 22nd June saw an early start for six Glossop swimmers and their parents, who attended the 15th Annual Open Meet hosted by Retford Swimming Club.  The event was held at Ponds Forge Pool in Sheffield; for all attending this was to be the first time they had swum in a pool with such fantastic facilities.  The pool recently held the British Olympic trials for Beijing and is also home to several of the current (and up and coming) British Diving squad, some of whom happened to be in a training session during the course of the day – frightening stuff!!!.

Stockport Metro Mini-Meet Grand Prix Finals (Round 1)

21st June 2008

The first of the two Mini Meet finals was a fantastic night for Glossop ASC swimmers; in total they were awarded an impressive 5 silver and 4 bronze medals on the night.

The future of Glossop swimming is looking bright with young swimmers Adam Cooper and Luke Kearslake blazing a trail, in the 9 and under age category, for the older swimmers to follow.  Adam had a fantastic night, showing consistency counts, coming 3rd in each of his races and bringing home three bronze medals. Luke also showed he could deliver the goods with an impressive silver medal in the 25m Free.

Report from gala at Macclesfield Satellites on Sunday 11th May 2008.
On Sunday two Glossop swimmers - Chloe Fletcher and Steph Issatt competed in the Macclesfield Satellites annual gala, it was a very long hot day for all concerned with both girls having to be at the pool for 7.15am for the team warm up at 7.30 on pool side.
The day consisted of three sessions 8am , 1pm and 4pm - each session having a 30 minute warm up in the main pool and  a 15 - 30 minute warm down after each event in the warm down pool located adjacent to the main pool.  Both Chloe and Steph had pre-entered their events beforehand and realised early on the day ahead was not going to be an easy one.
The first session  included the 200m breaststroke for Chloe and the 200m breaststroke and 50 free for Steph. It was the first time both girls had swum the 200m breaststroke in competition and produced very respectable times and accumulated a number of GB points.
The second session included the 200m backstroke for Chloe and the 200m backstroke and 50 fly for Steph, again it was the first time both girls had swum the 200m backstroke in competition and swam very well, achieving a number of very good times in all events.
The start of the  third session was starting to take its toll with both girls feeling the pressure, due to the amount of swimming already completed and the heat. Chloe finished the final session competing in the 200m IM and 200m free whilst Steph ended her day with the 200 IM.
Both girls performed very  well against a very high standard field and eventually left the pool at 7pm, clocking up a number of impressive PB's along the way.

Mini meet success at Stockport for Glossop ASC swimmers

On Saturday 26th April 9 members of GASC took part in a mini meet at Stockport Metro Swimming Club. They were Adam Cooper, Luke Kearslake, Charlotte Daniels, Stephanie Issatt, Chloe Fletcher, Joe Mitchell, Anthony Murphy, Jess Orobiej-Asher and Annie-Jo Kearslake. All our swimmers did themselves proud by swimming hard and showing their vocal support for each other and many obtained new PB’s (timed by proper electronic timing!). They now have a nervous wait to find out whether they have made it to the finals, to be held over two weekends at the end of June.

Their times are displayed below, please remember these don’t equate to their pointscore times as such as Stockport is a 25m pool whereas ours is slightly shorter at 24.38m (26.66yrds). But doesn’t that mean they should all get quicker times at pointscore!?!

4th Open Disability Meet, Swansea Stingrays

High Peak Sharks travelled to Swansea for the Open event hosted by Swansea Stingrays on Saturday 12th April.

The Development events gave Jasmine Bamber and Thomas Hand, both new to competition swimming, the chance to show their skills.  Jasmine performed well in both the 9m and 25m events while Tom surprised us all by winning his heats in the 25m events.  Adele Hyland and Emilia Wright, who swam as siblings, also got their first chance at competition.  Adele like Tom, won her heats and Emilia swam well in the 9m and 25m events.  Bas Wright, who has now enjoyed a few outings for the club, swam in the 25m events while James Moss, now an experienced swimmer, captained the High Peak team for the Development Gala and also swam in the 50m events.  All swimmers, with support from Ellie Bamber (sibling) and Travis Hyland from the main event, competed in the 25m relays.

Alan Bamber captained the team of swimmers for the afternoon’s events which included Travis and Ellie and also Dom Wright swimming as a sibling.  All performed well and close to their personal best times. Though the standard in the afternoon was high our swimmers showed commitment and enthusiasm.

Thanks to our parent organisation, Glossop Amateur Swimming Club, for their help in getting us to Swansea!
